ACX Audible Bounty Referral Program

What you need to know about
Audible’s $75 Bounty referral

When will I get my bounty?

$75 bounty for every new Audible listener? Sound too good to be true?
Well, it is true, but there are some things you need to know.

I recently put my first book, The Heavenfield up on Audible, and was quite interested when I saw the Bounty Referral Program, which promises $50 for every new customer that buys your book through a special referral link and signs up to Audible at the same time.

If you get exclusive distribution with Audible, that bounty referral goes up to $75.

Wow! $75 a time? That’s amazing! What’s the catch?

I tried to find out whether there were any constraints on how long the customer had to sign up for, or when I’d get my bounty payout, and there was a lot of conflicting information. Some sites even said that all a new customer had to do was buy your audiobook through the bounty referral link and sign up to Audible for a free trial and Boom! I’d get $75 sent straight to me - sadly, this is not the case.

Since I signed up for an exclusive distribution to ACX with my latest book The Diary of Otto Kandinsky I found that it isn’t as easy as it appears. I got my wife to test things out by getting my audiobook with a free Audible trial. Expecting a nice Christmas bonus, I kept checking, but saw no sign of any bounty in my sales stats.

What Audible Say

After talking to the ACX support staff I got to the bottom of what the problem was. This is what they said when I asked why my bounty hadn’t appeared:

“Thank you for contacting ACX.

You will earn up to a $75 Bounty payment each time an audiobook produced through ACX is the first purchase on Audible by an AudibleListener member. However, that Audible Listener member must remain a member in good standing for at least 61 consecutive days before the $75 bounty is paid on the qualifying audiobook purchase.

In practice, this means that if a customer purchased your audiobook in November and became an Audible Listener during the purchase. 61 days later, in January the bounty should appear on your sales dashboard under your January bounties, as that was when the bounty payment was sparked. However, the $75 payment should be included in your February payment.”

So, there you have it. The customer has to be subscribed for 61 consecutive days before the author becomes eligible for their bounty of up to $75.

To be fair to Audible, they do explain this in several places on their site if you dig about, but I didn’t see it when I first signed up, and I’m sure many people are unsure as to how it all works too.

So, is it too good to be true? Well, the money is always welcome, but how realistic is it that someone is going to grab your audiobook on a free trial and then stick with it for a couple of months when they have to start paying $14.95?

Time will tell I guess. I’ll report back in a little over 61 days… 😉

While you're here...

In the meantime, you can always try grabbing a copy of The Heavenfield free with a 30-day trial, and try it out for yourself (and help me out with that little Christmas bonus…) 😉
