37. Dante

Otto has survived his tour of duty in the Great Ruins, and proven himself a capable commander.

But rumours that the British research teams are close to achieving Standing-Point forces the Exiles to quicken the pace of their own plans, and Otto is recalled to fulfil a new, and vital duty...

It's been a slog of a few weeks recently, as I try to get to the end of the Diaries. I've been working on the last few chapters for some time now; I've got a long list of all the loose ends I need to tie up in a way that flows. I wrote the last sections of the book over a year ago, so I've always had a clear idea of how it should end, but when it comes to it, making sure all the details are included has meant that I've had to go back through the story again.

At the moment, I have to say that I'll be glad to get to the end of what was initially intended to be a short novel, but has blossomed into over 170,000 words. I'm not sick of it, just tired, and eager to get on with some different ideas I have building up inside. But, I know that these last few weeks on the project are crucial, so I'm giving it all my attention, knowing I can collapse for a while when I finally get to the end!

I'm still a little way behind with the audio, so all this talk of endings doesn't really apply at the moment; there are still about 10 episodes left before the end. But, now the story definitely turns a corner, as events begin to speed up. We're coming up to the events that signal the start of the Heavenfield novel, and once they begin it's a fast pace until the end.

I hope you enjoy the ride! You can listen to the episodes here:
